$10,000 to the Winning Team of the Kapuskasing River Walleye Tournament

The winning team for the Kapuskasing River Walleye Tournament took home more than a few big walleye. Jason and Andrea Robichaud pulled in $10,000 after winning this years competition. Head of the KRWT committee Gilles Aubertin says the event has tremendous local support and this year over 100 teams competed for the top prize.

The head of the KRWT committee says in order to take part contestants had to get a team of no more or no less than two people and could only catch a certain amount of fish per day. The total weight of all the fish combined over the two days determined the winning team.

Each year this event is hosted along the Kapuskasing River and several years ago it took a 16-pound walleye to take home big fish honours. This year the biggest walleye pulled in was just over 10 pounds.

For the most part the tournament sees local competitors but they also get teams that come from out of town.
