What the Province is Addressing at FONOM Conference and What it Isn’t

FONOM’s annual conference of provincial, municipal and First Nations leaders is an important one for the north.

That’s the message from the President of FONOM and Mayor of Kapuskasing, Allan Spacek.

Spacek says it’s a unique opportunity to discuss issues like infrastructure, rising prices of goods and services and healthcare face-to-face with northern leaders.

He says the new infrastructure funding promised in the election will be coming through and could mean major improvements in the region.

This year’s discussions didn’t tackle high food or gas prices in the north.

Premier Kathleen Wynne announced there are no plans to regulate gas prices.

Spacek says even though the province has no plans to act, that doesn’t mean there aren’t other ways to tackle it.

MPP for Timmins-James Bay Gilles Bisson says he has no plans to stop pressing the issue in Queen’s Park and is calling for pressure from residents on the province to act.
