There’s some hope that First Nations are closer to having full jurisdiction over the welfare of their children.
The development is the result of a meeting between the province and First Nation leaders, including Ontario Regional Chief Isadore Day.
The province will work with Aboriginal communities on what areas need financial help and then both parties will involve the feds.
Day says there are still many suicides among young Aboriginals as well as a lot of poverty and violence and adds this is unacceptable in the 21st century.
