Fedeli’s Motion to Hold Talk on Municipal Elections in the North Defeated

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says the Liberals have an ulterior motive for why they won’t hold hearings outside Toronto to update municipal elections.

He says the they want voting based on a ranked system meaning municipal politicians win by who you pick first, second, third and so on.

Right now winners are determined by who gets the most votes.

Fedeli says by not holding hearings outside Toronto, the Liberals are restricting who can talk on the proposed change.

Fedeli says the P-C’s asked that hearings be held in Northern Ontario but the Liberals defeated that with their majority.

He says it means anyone wanting to speak on the Municipal Elections Modernization Act will be forced to go to Toronto.
