Union Calling for More Charges Against Detour Gold

The charges against Detour Gold are being criticized by the United Steelworkers Union.

The charges of criminal negligence causing death to the mining company stem from one of its employees, 52-year old Denis Millette whose June death has been linked to cyanide.

The Matheson man died at the Detour mining operation just north of Cochrane.

The union is calling for charges to be brought up against executives and directors from police.

The union’s national director Ken Neumann says for the most part police either aren’t trained or directed to lay charges beyond a company.
