Kapuskasing Chooses not to Support Save VIA Campaign

Save VIA is a campaign which, among other goals, aims to retain and restore passenger-rail services to northern Ontario.

Kapuskasing town council gave its recommendation last night not to support the campaign.

Councillor Dave Plourde cited a five cents-a-litre gas hike to off-set its expenses as too costly for residents.

Other northern municipalities are taking a closer look whether or not to support the initiative.

The town’s CAO Yves Labelle says it’s mostly to keep rail in the North Bay area but it’s a start for the north in restoring its lost rail services from 2012.
