CBA Taking Donor Precautions due to Zika Virus

The Canadian Blood Services is implementing a waiting period for anyone who may have come into contact with the Zika Virus.

They are asking anyone who has traveled outside of Canada, the Continental U-S, or Europe to wait 21 days before donating blood.

Northeast Territory Manager Joanne Drake says this is going to impact the number of eligible donors, and asking anyone traveling to give before you go.

She also says anyone travelling to a country that has a malaria risk will have to wait a year before being able to donate.

She says new donors are critical this time of year, to help offset the number of regular donors who can’t come in because of travel.

The next blood donor clinic in Timmins is on February 24th and 25th.
