Town of Kap holds fall clean-up of unwanted items

You will now be able to recycle your unwanted items in the fall in Kapuskasing.

A second reuse and recycle drop-off depot will take place from September 24 to the 30th from 8 am to 4 pm in the Sports Palace Parking lot. The only change is that you won’t be able to put your other items at curbside like the spring one. Foreman Stephane Daoust says they are building off the moment of the previous one held in late spring.

“Second event in the fall to help out,” he said. “It’s surely coming back in the spring now it’s hopefully something we will see from now on. We will be picking it all up from metal, to garbage, everything.”

Daoust says they’d also like to see more batteries.

“Batteries are very hard on our landfill and the environment. And we are shipping out a full container. You can drop them off at public works, now. A container now almost every month now of old batteries.”

Daoust says these types of clean-up events help to extend the life of the landfill site that’s slowly getting towards capacity. He adds it prevents some items that would normally go into the dump, be turned over to companies to dispose of.
