Cochrane’s mayor is not running for re-election

After three of the last four terms as mayor of Cochrane, Peter Politis is not running for re-election on October 26th.

He calls the top job “quite a commitment” and says Cochrane is on the precipice of really good things. And at 63, he says he’s getting up in age.

“I don’t know if I have another four years in me to dedicate the way I typically do it, which is all in, quite frankly,” he states. “It’s good for me to move on and start to explore life. I’ve always said that life is not meant to be endured; it’s meant to be explored, so when you start enduring, start exploring.”

On the question of whether he’ll return, Mayor Politis says he never says never. He’ll stay committed to the degree that council wants to benefit from his experience.

He’s also glad that incumbent councillors Sylvie Charron-Lemieux and Susan Nelson are running for the head of the council table. He says it’s good that they each represent a completely different point of view.

“I’m not going to get into who I believe would be the best mayor at the end of the day. I don’t think that’s fair. I think the community can ask their questions and make those choices. I think either way, we’re in a pretty good situation.”
