Police chief assures Timmins there is no active shooter around

Timmins Police Chief Sydney Lecky has a calming but blunt message to the people of his city: “There is no active shooter running around our community”.

That’s in relation to two targeted yet unlinked homicides in just over 24 hours: The first just after 1:00am Friday on Balsam St. near Fifth Ave,; the other a few minutes into Saturday morning on Rea St. and Wilson Ave. One person was killed in each incident by someone they knew.

“There is no immediate threat to the public at large and police have not yet arrested the individuals involved,” Lecky told a late Saturday afternoon news conference, “but based on the investigation and the information that we have to date, that would suggest that this is not related and there is no threat to the public at large.”

Two people but not the suspected shooter in Saturday’s shooting have been arrested.  No one has been arrested in the incident a day earlier.
