Construction set to start on new seniors’ housing in Smooth Rock Falls

Construction is set to begin later next month on the seniors’ housing project in Smooth Rock Falls. Consultant Keith Harriman says Descon Construction is getting crews together and it is hopeful the project can be completed by next summer.

“So it’s been really to our benefit trying to hire local people that are qualified for the project so it brings an economic boom to the community and helps everybody out,” he said.

The complex features 20 accessible two-bedroom units for adults 55 and over, shared indoor and outdoor common space to encourage social connection.

“The seniors are so happy we have a waiting list of over 100 people; people are signed up fighting to get in,” he said. “It’s 20 two-bedrooms, slap on grade, in floor heading and air conditioning.”
