Kap Fire Department is getting new equipment to help fight brush and forest fires

The Kapuskasing Fire Department is getting a huge donation from the non-profit organization Global Medic next month.

It’s a wildland fire skid system that fire chief Normand Beauchamp says will help his crew access wooded areas that conventional pumpers and tanker trucks can’t get to.

“High pressure portable pump, with hoses, and it’s used to fight brush and forest fires. When I say brush fire it’s within our town limits.”

The tank can be mounted to the bed of a pick-up truck or a trailer.

“To use the system, it’s not required specific training. It’s not a special piece of equipment. It’s just an add–on, in addition to our piece of equipment that will be useful to protect our community.”

Global Medic has sent out more than 600 systems across the country.
