Renovations underway at Claude Larose Recreation Centre in Hearst

Claude Larose Recreation Centre in Hearst is undergoing major renovations this summer. Parks and recreation director Marc Alain Begin says that work has already started on the bathrooms in the dressing rooms that haven’t been changed since the arena first opened in the 1970s.

“Right now we are in the arena doing the locker rooms washrooms,” he said. “It’s going to be a couple of months so by August I’d say everything should be done.”

Begin says it is all about improving accessibility.

“Just in the renovations they did to the washrooms already it’s a difference night and day,” he said. “They did the pool right now and it’s very beautiful. The washrooms and the showers are very nice.”

He adds that they are waiting on parts and other items to begin repairs to the elevator and the front doors.

Funding for the renovations was partially covered by a grant from the provincial government.
