College releases dome cost

Northern College has revealed the cost of the sports dome under construction at its Timmins campus: $20-million.

It’s being funded by the college, the provincial and municipal governments and community and industry partners.

The 130-thousand-square-foot dome is the first sports facility built in Timmins since the nearby Whitney Arena in 1982.

It will be used for college and community activities. Northern predicts that once the dome is fully operational, revenue streams from it will exceed $750,000 a year.

The college says it’s actively looking for opportunities for sponsorship, collaboration and support in the areas of programming, activities and facility costs.

Construction is expected to wrap up in December.
