Former Cochrane CAO suing mayor, municipality

The former chief administrative officer of the Town of Cochrane has filed a lawsuit against the municipality and Mayor Peter Politis.

In a statement of claim, Monika Malherbe alleges Politis harassed and belittled her, causing serious distress, and alleges she was later dismissed on a without-cause basis. She is seeking $875,000 in damages, plus compensation related to lost health benefits and pension.

The allegations have not been tested in court.

In a written statement, Politis said he has consistently followed council’s direction and continues to have council’s support. He said neither he nor the town will comment further while the case is before the court.
