Construction of new seniors apartment complex in Smooth Rock Falls to start this summer

A consultant with a group bringing a seniors housing complex to Smooth Rock Falls says design stage is underway, and he is hopeful to have shovels in the ground by this summer.

Keith Harriman says there will be a total of 20 one-floor town homes built on Catherine Street close to services and the hospital.

“But as soon as the snow is gone we will start construction, so that will be early June probably, and it typically takes us a year from start construction to occupancy so it will be June or July of next year,” he said.

Harriman says the plan is to keep rental costs affordable.

“Because we’re a not-for-profit organization we set up for them and if the market runs about $2,000 or more, we should get away with renting these for 17 or 18 hundred or somewhere around that range,” he said.

He adds that the support of the project has been great from well attended open houses to the relationship with town council.
