Kap fire chief says be mindful to check snow on roofs of homes and businesses

In the wake of two roof collapses in four days… The Kapuskasing fire chief admits that two major snowstorms in November and December prompted him to get firefighters to check on roofs of home and businesses.
Normand Beauchamp says his crews drove around town and letters were given if excess snow was noticed.
“From the street they checked out every single roof and when they determined that someone has way to much snow they just distributed an informal notice, nothing formal, just an informal notice asking people to check their roof,” he said.
He has a message for everyone.
“Please check your roof,” he said. “If you determine that you have way too much snow on your roof remove it, get professional people to remove the snow. If you feel the doors are difficult to open it’s because there is way too much weight on your roof.”
Two Byng Avenue buildings had roofs collapse in the last four days– the former bowling alley and Sears store.
Construction crews began taking down the bowling alley yesterday.
