The conservative member of parliament for Kapuskasing–Timmins–Mushkegowuk has presented a private members bill and motion in Ottawa to make Highways 11 and 17 a project of national interest.
Gaetan Malette says the highways have been a source of fear this winter, and it’s time to get both levels of governments on board to make them better.
“From the federal government and national security, we just passed a budget in Ottawa,” he said. “Five per cent of it is for national defense and national security. So, we know there is money so now it’s for the federal and the provincial to sit down together with transport Canada infrastructure and provinces.”
He says since making his presentation, he’s received a lot of positive comments.
“And I’ve already heard from some liberal MPs that are really pleased,” he said. “Now this has been deposited Thursday, maybe Friday. Right now, we are all working in our riding. So I will find out when I am back in Ottawa next week.”
