The coordinator of the Brent Secord Memorial Snow Cross says that all of the snow we’ve gotten this winter will be put to good use by the competitors at the event this Saturday and Sunday in Timmins. Clint Chartrand says that the fans might not see much of a difference but to the riders it’s a big help.
“For the natural snow for the fans it might not be that important but natural snow is great for the riders. It’s not as icy. It’s a much better snow to race on, easier for the groomer.”
Chartrand says they are expecting over 100 competitors from across the province to challenge for the prizes including $25,000 to the winner of the professional division shootout. He also thinks there will be a big crowd.
“Last year we had somewhere around a thousand fans show up, it was minus 40 on Saturday, Sunday, this year we’re expecting a few more. We do have a bunch of fire pits on display, beaver tails guy, heated tents brought in by High Grade Industrial, a sliding hill for the kids.”
There will be a shuttle offered by Timmins Transit to and from the venue for fans. Tickets are available at the gate or from the Timmins Snow Cross website.
