Kapuskasing appears to be off critical list of a doctor shortage, but the chairman of the healthcare recruitment committee and councillor Gary Fortin insists looking for doctors will never stop.
Forton says even though there are currently 14 doctors including three surgeons in the community, there are always retirements and changes. He adds that the last four recruits were originally from Kapuskasing and wanted to come home.
“What happened there is that all of the stars finally realigned,” he said. “We have the new CT Scan, the Family Health Team, a new building. Nicole goes to numerous fairs and the medical staff is amazing they sometimes go to fairs as well to help us recruit.”
Fortin says even the number of people looking for a family doctor has dropped to under 2,000 from where it was several years ago.
