Province to provide more assistance to Fauquier-Strickland

The provincial government is adding more funding to help the Town of Fauquier-Strickland with its financial crisis.

Minister of Municipal Affairs Robert Flack sent a detailed letter to mayor Madeleine Tremblay that up to an additional $600,000 in transfer payments is being given to help cover operational expenses until January of next year.

Flack says a multi-part strategy has also been implemented, including discussion with potential lenders for loans, and the completion of a provincial municipal audit that will include an analysis of the financial situation.

Mayor Tremblay welcomed further help from the province and their willingness to work with the municipality. She declined additional comments until a later date.
