Province Streamlines Bike Trail Development

Ontario has announced its making it easier for municipalities to build bike paths and trails.

From the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Kate Jordan says the process for getting funding and approval was unnecessarily complicated.

She says the environmental assessment has been specifically streamlined to give municipalities the access, time and money they need.

This means municipalities, including those in the Northeast, will have an easier time submitting proposals for bike lanes in the development of trails.

The town’s clerk Barbara Major says a recent request for funding was denied but the town is planning to re-submit with the new system.
