The Moose FM Kapuskasing Food Bank 12 hour food drive is approaching this Friday beginning at 6 at the corner of Queen Street and the Circle.
Food Bank coordinator Laury Benson says over the past month the number of people needing assistance has grown rapidly.
“We’re noticing more people needing emergency help folks that have moved here that are homeless that are hungry,” she said. “Anywhere from five new folks per week that I keep getting calls for that could really use the help.”
Benson says one of the big requirements this week is for people to drop off can goods like vegetables or pasta as well as juices especially for children.
She is challenging the business community to help get to the goal of $6,000 in cash.
“We would like to challenge all businesses in Kapuskasing to match or beat a pledge of $50 dollars,” she said. “You can drop that off to us in the circle on Friday before you go to the lake for the weekend.”
The Food Drive is also hoping to raise 6,000 pounds of non-perishable food items.
