Forestry legacy event coming to Kapuskasing June 28

The Model Town’s rich forestry history will be celebrated later on this month.  A forestry legacy event is set for Saturday, June 28th from 2 to 6 pm at the Welcome Centre.

There will be a free barbecue, kids zone tree planting and much more. Organizer Tristan Hardy of Integrity Reforestation says the event is a partnership with The Arbour Day Foundation with help of a donation from the founding family of Kapuskasing, the Sensenbrenners.

“In the intension of celebrating the legacy of their family intertwined with forestry and how the community came to be through the establishment of the mill and through that inspiration we have worked with the Sensenbrenner family,” she said.

Hardy says Joe Sensenbrenner will be in attendance that day. A living landscaped monument and a plaque will be unveiled.

She adds that there will also be a huge replanting of trees.

“The first is going to be the larger treeplant We are going to be planting 10,350 mix of black and white spruce trees in the Gordon Cosens Forest just off of Swanson Road,” she said.
