Kap History – Construction Dome meeting in 1963

Winter Construction and how to beat the cold is the topic of this week’s look at local history.

A story and photo of a polyethylene air-supported tent is featured in the January 16th edition of the Northern Times. The tent which can cover a space of 80 by 50 feet was part of a presentation made to the Kapuskasing Citizens’ Winter Employment Campaign by a company from Hamilton.

The officials noted that the tent is about 25 feet high at the dome, can be put up in about four or five hours and inflated in 30 minutes using an air compressor. It was thought at the time that a whole house could be construction summer like temperatures of the structure.

We thank the Kapuskasing Public Library for this interesting topic and others for our weekly segment.
