Two walk-in mammogram days offered at Sensenbrenner Hospital

Sensenbrenner Hospital in Kapuskasing is giving women two opportunities to participate in walk-in breast screening clinics next Wednesday, October 23rd and the following Tuesday, October 29th.

Charge Technologist Diagnostic Imaging Tammy Stanbury says it’s a perfect chance for those between 40 and 49 who are now part of the new eligibility requirement to come out.

“During this time we take four images – two of each side,” she said. “When you are having a mammogram it usually feels a little bit uncomfortable, kinda like a blood pressure cuff sort of squeezing the breast, but it’s minimal and the benefits definitely outweigh the risks.”

Stanbury explains how you qualify.

“So you would qualify if you have no breast cancer symptoms; no personal history of breast cancer; you have not had a mastectomy or a screening mammogram within the last 11 months,” she said. “If you are transfeminine and using feminizing hormones for at least five years in a row you should consider having a mammogram.”

The clinics are from 8 am to 5:30 pm. There will be refreshment and all participants will be entered into a draw to win a floral bouquet.
