Town of Hearst offers chance for loved ones to be remembered on park furniture

The town of Hearst is launching a program for residents to have a piece of park furniture named after their loved ones. Administrator Eric Picard says two un-related events including one-off requests spurred the interest in making it an annual activity.

“This whole policy is one a way to inform the public and two stream line the process,” he said. “During our 100th anniversary, we did have a couple of benches that were set up with names. They did contribute financially to make the benches, plaques and all of those things but we had requests on how we go about doing this.”

Picard says there is enough interest after receiving one off requests and questions from residents.

“Bike racks, picnic tables, and benches,” he said. “We’re hoping to expand it slowly as time moves forward. Anyone has anyone that has specific thing we are always willing to accommodate as well.”
