ISN Maskwa hosting open house in Kapuskasing Wednesday afternoon

Emergency management company ISN Maskwa is holding an open house in Kapuskasing this afternoon to allow residents to learn more about their upcoming summer plans.

ISN Maskawa will be in charge of hosting forest fire and flood evacuees from the James Bay Coast in the community.

General manager of Missanabie Cree Business Corporation Joe Sayer says the lack of snowfall could be a major issue this summer.

“We are anticipating quite the season,” Sayer said. “We’re offering a number of training programs to build up the First Nations’ led response teams so we have more teams that are going to be made available for supportive communities in crisis this coming year.”

Emergency planning coordinator Ernie Louttit says he is looking forward to the event.

“That’s exactly what it is an open house,” he said. “If you want to know about our program training about the people in our program, by our leadership, you are more than welcome the citizens of Kapuskasing to come down and meet us and maybe have some questions or concerns and we would be more than happy to answer them for you.”

The meeting is from 3 to 6 pm at the Apollo Motel on Highway 11 West.
