OPP Const. Michelle Simard says if you must drive somewhere, bring heavy clothing and even food, in case you’re stuck waiting for a collision ahead of you to be cleared away.
“The best advice, though, is if you don’t need to travel, you should stay home,” she advises.”We just don’t want people travelling unnecessarily.”
Simard notes that this latest storm with its heavy wind drastically reduced visibility, on top of a less-than-ideal condition of the roadway.
“I was out there myself,” she observes, “and if you can’t see too far ahead of you, that doesn’t give you too much lead time when it comes to stopping for vehicles that are ahead of you, even slow moving vehicles.”
