Hearst town council wants Highway 11 west of community slowed down

Hearst Town Council will be asking the Ontario Ministry of Transportation to reduce the speed at the west entrance of the community on Highway 11.

Mayor Roger Sigouin says council would like to see it reduced from the current 90 km/h zone down to at least 70 if not lower.

“People are in quite a rush to go out of town and hit the highways but still that’s a dangerous zone,” he said. “Even the school buses they stop over there and it’s really dangerous so we have to do something with the MTO.”

Sigouin says that area has several homes, a trailer park, and businesses and has become dangerous. He adds the town has received reports of dangerous driving by transports including illegal passing.
