SRF town council wrestles with short term accommodation issue

Public consultation hearings are on the horizon as Smooth Rock Falls Town Council wrestles with the issue of regulating short term accommodation rentals.

Council began looking it last year and amended the parking bylaw as one step. During a meeting this week, councillors went through a presentation with various options including imposing a Municipal Accommodation Tax on rentals fewer than 30 days.

That money collected would be used by the town for future projects and shared with non-profit groups that promote tourism.

Moose FM News reached out to town officials including Mayor Patrick Roberts but they’ve chosen to reserve comments until a later date.
