Kap public library and Moose FM team up for new history feature

Moose FM is proud to announce a new segment to our newscasts every Monday. It’s a Kapuskasing history feature thanks to the Public Library and the archives of the Northern Times.

Library CAO Julie Latimer says several years ago The Northern Times gave the library all of their bound archived issues.

“People are able to if they have to research to do they are able to come in and say I need to look up something in and happened in July of 1977,” she said. “And we show them the archival way to deal with these bound newspapers.”

Latimer says the first one focuses on the very first issue March 22, 1961.

“It’s quite fascinating because the main article talks about how it was interested individuals in the community felt it was important to have a local newspaper again so it details a lot of that,” she said. “There are a few congratulations from the mayor, and possibly some town councillors.”

Moose FM’s sister stations in Cochrane and Iroquois Falls run a similar history feature every Monday.
