We will know next month what pay raise Kapuskasing town council will adopt for itself for 2024.
A proposal of a 2.7 per cent increase was changed by councilor Martin Dinnissen to 1.5 per cent plus a lump sum payment of $5,000 to mayor Dave Plourde. Dinnissen says he wants to set a trend for the new budget coming in by reducing the compensation.
Bruce Newton says the mayor puts in long hours including talking town business at his own place of employment. Mayor Plourde says it’s important to keep rates in line with everyone across the north and not fall behind.
Last year remuneration for the mayor ranked fourth among similar communities around the north and third for councillors.
