Cochrane natural gas plant getting government money for study

The Ministry of Energy has announced a $100,000 grant for HydroMega Services, the owners of a natural gas power plant in Cochrane.

The money will be used to conduct a feasibility study to upgrade the 27-megawatt facility to include renewable generation, low carbon hydrogen production and storage.

Energy minister Todd Smith says natural gas currently performs a critical role in keeping the lights on during periods of peak demands and now the province is investing in new technologies like hydrogen that could help meet the demand going forward.
