Kap mayor continues to push for new Extendicare to be built

It’s been two years since Kapuskasing was approved for a new Extendicare facility and little progress continues to be made.

The Ministry of Long Term Care and Extendicare continue to be at odds over funding models.

Mayor Dave Plourde says it’s important to keep up the pressure on the province.

“Well most recently I sent out a letter to the mayors,” he said. “As you know the mayors in our neighbouring communities were instrumental in us seeing approval from the Ministry to an Extendicare new building. An increase of 68 beds the current capacity of 60 and also a new facility.”

Plourde says he’s told the mayors that the message is clear to keep reminding them of the need for a new facility.

He adds it doesn’t matter who is in charge of the Long-Term Care ministry, they know the issues at hand.

“Minister Cho has been in our community or has been in the neighbouring communities at least to visit and he is no newcomer to Northern Ontario,” he said. “So certainly if we have an opportunity to get him to Northern Ontario Kapuskasing more particularly we will.”
