Flyers hockey team and Town Council nearing new long term agreement

The president of the Kapuskasing Flyers says he’s pleased with the new draft proposal from the town regarding ice time at the Sports Palace. Jimmy Cote says the board of directors will review the deal in the coming weeks.

“And I believe it’s a win-win for the Flyers for town council and for the community of Kapuskasing,” Cote said. “It is a multi-year proposal and will enable us to plan our budget in advance and what’s more important is to ensure the longevity of the Kapuskasing hockey program.”

The five year agreement clarifies the verbiage from preferred ice rental rate to an opportunity to raise revenue through advertising signage. The ice rental is the same as the minor hockey rate and the package also identifies 10 different signage locations within the arena.

Kapuskasing town council was really receptive of the initial proposal that was brought forward at the meeting,” he said. “Discussions that were had were great and they understood the concerns that we had from the Kapuskasing Flyers.”

The new agreement is expected to be passed at the next council meeting.

The Kapuskasing Flyers play in the Great North U18 Hockey League and return to action at home this Friday night.
