Val Rita-Harty’s 50th anniversary homecoming starts Thursday night

Final preparations are underway for Val Rita-Harty’s 50th anniversary homecoming weekend. Chief Administrative Officer Jimmy Cote says he’s expecting many people who have moved away to come back and celebrate. The Harty Fire Hall will host the kick-off wine and cheese on Thursday night.

“We invited every councillor since the incorporation of Val Rita Harty, and invited the old mayors,” he said. “Everyone will be there at a meet and greet, chat a little bit, give speeches, tell a few stories about things that happened in Val Rita-Harty a few years back.”

Cote says one event he’s excited about is a big supper on Friday night.

“We’ll be having a meal that is 100 per cent local so everything in their plate from the beans, to the chicken from the potatoes everything comes from Val Rita or the surrounding area of Kapuskasing,” he said.

Other events include a parade on Saturday morning and a concert featuring well known francophone artist from the area Renee Ray. A full schedule of activities is available on the town’s website.
