Several ‘Northlander’ projects in the works

Reported by Richard Coffin

Ontario Northland says work on reinstating Northlander passenger rail service is progressing.

The ONTC is surveying companies that may be interested in bidding on several upcoming projects.

An online ‘market sounding’ survey is available until Friday.

Officials say the interest and feedback will help guide the development of procurement.

Projects include enhancements to a dozen stop locations, from Washago to Cochrane and all points in between.

Construction is expected to start in 2024 and wrap up in 2025.

Another is for Northlander stop shelters on up to nine platforms, to be delivered next year.

The third project is construction of the Timmins Station, which is expected to start in 2025.

Here is a list of ONTC “Community Connection” events, where you’ll have an opportunity to provide valuable feedback on the design and amenities of this future passenger rail service.

  •    Timmins – Friday, September 29 – McIntyre Community Centre (12 pm to 5 pm)
