A new Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League season is set to face off. The Hearst Lumberjacks begin with three away from home starting tomorrow night in Sudbury. With just a handful of returnees to the line-up Head Coach Marc-Alain Begin isn’t ready to call this a rebuild.
“In terms of rebuild, four players from last year yes, but at the same time in Hearst we never rebuild we always go for the championship so I think we have a pretty solid core coming back also,” he said.
Begin says GM Jonathan Blier has added more depth and experience over the summer including three former Kapuskasing Flyers.
Begin says there isn’t a better place to get to know one another then on the road.
“Last weekend and this weekend coming up will help the team bond and if you can be together on the ice you can be together off the ice and that’s really helpful also,” he added.
The Lumberjacks concluded their pre-season over the weekend by capturing the Telco Cup beating Kam River in Thunder Bay. Hearst’s home opener is next Friday, Sept. 15 against the Elliot Lake Vikings.
