The Mayor of Kapuskasing as taken on some additional responsibility. Dave Plourde was voted as the first Vice President of the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities during its conference. Plourde, says he hopes to bring a consistent familiar voice.
“Well I think it’s about making connections,” he said. “I think the connections we make with different ministries will allow us to get our voices heard. I think that opportunities present themselves at different times and it’s about taking advantage of those opportunities and getting your say in.”
Plourde says bail reform and housing are two of the major issues the group is dealing with.
“We had four different delegations with four different ministries at the last AMO conference,” he said. “And I think it allowed us to get our northern voice heard. I think it’s repeating every time that we get to the table that they hear our perspective and understand where we come from.”
FONOM will be holding one of its meetings in Kapuskasing in October.
