Area around new dog park gets rezoned by town council

Kapuskasing town council approved a zoning bylaw change around the new dog park at their meeting this week. The amendment changes the designation from rural to open space. Mayor Dave Plourde says that area was not zoned properly to begin with.

“Ball field in Val Albert was not zoned properly to just be a ball park,” he said. “So in the process to rezoning it to make it what it should be, we added the dog park to that so it’s presently appropriately to accommodate the dog park and just to facilitate that?”

During  a public meeting in late June, some residents were concerned with the construction and upkeep of the buildings at the dog park. Town staff told the group that the buildings are allowed and will be maintained by recreation department.
