Hearst 100th anniversary celebrations kick off Thursday

Hearst’s centennial anniversary celebrations are set to kick off Thursday and run through the following week. Economic Development Officer Lydia Rodrigue says it’s been difficult on local residents and committee members because of the delays encountered but now the wait is over.

“We had to punch back our dates last year so this year it’s really happening it’s finally upon us,” she said. “We’re super excited can’t wait for it to happen. We have lots of activities coming up.”

Rodrigue says two concerts highlight the weekend featuring Matt Lang and Mitch Jean on Friday, and the local bad The Swamp Rats on Saturday. Part of the that night’s fun is a local talent show.

“An intergenerational competition between Hearst people,” she said. “So as some local singers will be singing then we will ask the crowd to vote on who their favourite was and all of that.”

On the Sunday night, free poutine for the first 500 people who come by the pavilion. Hotel space is limited in the community and Rodrigue says there are RV spots available at several campgrounds in the area.
