Town of Hearst under water advisory until September

This is the first day of a water advisory for the town of Hearst. It’s in place until the first week of September while upgrades are being made to the water treatment plant.

CAO Eric Picard says part of the water reservoir is closed. Residents are being asked to limit washing their cars and watering their lawns. The popular splash pads for the kids are also shutdown.

“We’ve offered tips we haven’t implemented fines or anything of the sort,” he said. “Right now we are just asking citizens try to make a conscious effort. We’re going to monitor our water consumption daily to see if we are not able to get under the number to get under we might have to take it a step further.”

Federal and provincial government grants and the town of Hearst are covering the cost of the $1.36 million project. Picard says the work was carried out this summer because of time constraints from the construction company.
