For the second time in as many weeks a federal politician will visit Kapuskasing. On Wednesday night Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre is holding a reception at the Centre de Loisirs from 6 to 9. Mayor Dave Plourde says it’s not too often we get the federal officials here on a regular basis.
“We struggle at times to find where the federal government fits into our everyday day-to-day business around the town,” he said. “Where it really counts for us is in infrastructure. We have a deficit and you know it’s not just in Kapuskasing, there’s an infrastructure deficit everywhere.”
Plourde says he’s hoping to get a few moments with Poilievre to talk about some important issues.
“Housing and infrastructure are the two main concerns from everybody in Northern Ontario so I’m sure he will hear much of the same where ever he goes,” he said. “It’s something we are not use to. Housing is always something we have had a surplus of and now we are seeing that we really don’t have enough. We need more affordable housing and we need to work on that.”
