The Sensenbrenner Hospital Foundation concluded its labour and delivery room project thanks to a sizeable donation from Agnico Eagle. The mining company that operates Detour Lake northeast of Cochrane gave $82,883 to help purchase a ceiling light, labour bed, post-natal family bed and a fetal heart monitor.
Foundation president Gilbert Peters says he’s thrilled that the group won’t have to ask local businesses for more help.
“That people from outside of the region can come in and seeing the value of the work that our hospital does for their local people. And we are thrilled that we have partners that believe in us and willing to work with us.”
Health and Safety Superintendent Kevin Watson says it was only fitting to give back to the area that’s helped them.
“We do our best to acquire local talent and so Kapuskasing is one of those areas that we have worked with to acquire these people.”
Moose FM helped to kick off the project last December by raising nearly $50,000 during the radiothon.
