Warm Belly Soup Kitchen celebrates its first birthday later this month

The Warm Belly Soup Kitchen is celebrating its first anniversary later this month. Coordinator Amanda Rickard says the kitchen serves about 150 people on a weekly basis thanks to the support from the community.

“It’s been incredible,” she said. “It’s been one of those ask and you shall receive situations. Whenever we find out funds getting low people are always asking us what do you need so we are always looking for donations wherever you can help.”

To mark the occasion the kitchen will go back to its roots and serve soup and sandwiches and desert on Thursday, July 20. Rickard says several fundraisers are planned for the summer, including a carwash and a first aid kit draw.

“We love our new space and we just got confirmation today that we will have our own physical address, the centre has generously offered us our own office,” she said. “Three of us will have a space in the office.”
