Demolition Derby fun coming to Kap Kraze Country Festival

One of the unique events coming to the Kap Kraze Country Festival is a demolition derby on the Saturday, July 29th at 1 pm. Jim Grant from Ontario Demolition Derby Limited says 45 people have signed up and he expects that number grow all the way until the engines are fired up on race day.

“We have two to four different weight classes to run in from mini cars to mid-size to full-size, to what we call a junk run which is mini vans, SUVs stuff like that,” he said. “Small quarter ton trucks and then full sized trucks.”

There’s also a power wheels category for children ages 3 to 7 that will kick off the derby. Grant says its crowd pleaser in every community his group has gone to. He adds that parents shouldn’t expect their child’s plastic vehicle not to get scratched.

Grant says in a demolition derby you never know what vehicle might come out on top.

“The nicest looking strongest car might come out might quit right off the bat, and some piece of junk that’s just rattling and the fenders are flapping might come in and just win it all,” he said. “It’s really hard to predict who is going to win.”

Grant says having low prize money in the province keeps the big spenders out of the competition.
