Smooth Rock Falls to hold sportsman’s show and music festival in August

Smooth Rock Falls has found its replacement to fill the void of truck festival that was cancelled. Planning is underway for a sportsman’s show and music festival on Saturday, Aug. 19 and Sunday, Aug. 20 at the Reg Lamy Arena. It’s being organized by the Smooth Rock Falls Community Crew.

Committee member Julie Day says it was important to have a community event that could easily become annually.

“That there is something filling up the weekend, — and perhaps coming up with new ideas that can merge with the truck fest in the future,” she said. “So basically, we wanted to offer something to the community not everyone gets to go away and a sportsman’s show is good for a first time in Smooth Rock.

Day is hopeful the sportsman’s show will have displays from businesses across the north that interest outdoor enthusiasts.

She adds the music festival is in the arena parking lot on the Saturday night.

“Looking almost like a street dance at the same time,” she said. “It’s a mini-music festival. It’s fun. We are still working on maybe adding a few acoustic players and we will see maybe we will add some more music.”

The music line-up is highlighted by the band Stay Tuned from Hearst, and Sudbury country singer Mike Trudel.
