New team preparing to ‘Storm’ the NOJHL; first prospect camp is set

The new Junior A hockey team in Iroquois Falls has a name.

“It’s going to be called the Iroquois Falls Storm,” says owner Tom Nickolau.

He had several suggestions for names. He considers karma responsible for the final decision, when he was talking with a Timmins Rock fan at Walmart in Timmins.

“I already had a name in mind and the first thing that came out of his mouth for a team name was the Storm,” Nickolau recounts. “Sounds like a good name, be good for marketing, good for logo and that.”

Nickolau, won’t be head coach, as he was for the Cochrane Crunch. . He’s making way for  Kevin Walker. He says the first prospect camp is June 10th and 11th at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Complex in Sudbury.

Any eligible player is welcome.  Nickolau says local Iroquois Falls talent would be nice to have on the team.  But he can’t promise it.

“There is no quota. If a player’s good enough to play, we’re going to take him.”

The Storm will be selling season tickets this Wednesday between 6:30 and 8:30pm at the Jus Jordan Arena cafeteria.
