Sensenbrenner Hospital hosting walk-in mammogram event on Thursday

Sensenbrenner Hospital in Kapuskasing is hosting a walk-in mammogram event tomorrow between 8 am to 4 pm in the diagnostic imaging department. Mammography technician Tammy Stanbury says it’s open to women ages 50-74 who haven’t had a mammogram in the past 11 months.

“Ladies who have no symptoms are the ones who are invited. Obviously if you have symptoms you should have a discussion with your physician and definitely have a mammogram. Tomorrow for the ladies who have no symptoms those ladies who qualify for earl detection increases your odds of better outcomes when we find things at an earlier stage.

Technician Melissa Marien says the whole screening should take about 20 minutes, but it could be a bit longer depending on the number of people. She encourages women not to be shy…

“To do something for yourself especially with mother’s day coming. It’s important to take good care of your body, we only have one. And our staff is really well trained to make you feel comfortable and at ease with this exam.”
